5K Race - 2009

Fee
$25 entry fee if postmarked by or on May 18. After May 18, no registration is accepted via postal mail. $25 entry fee online by or on May 21. After May 21, the entry fee is $30 through noon on May 27. Register online.

$40 entry fee at packet pickup May 29. No registration will be accepted on race day. No refunds or transferring of race number.

Packet Pickup
5 Kilometer packets will be available May 29 at the Polk County Convention Complex, 501 Grand Avenue from 2 to 8 p.m. 5 kilometer packets will be available May 30 at the registration tent near the northeast corner of the Civic Center building from 8 to 9 a.m. Race entrants will be able to look up their race number at www.damtodam.com on May 28.

Chip Timing
All runners will be provided a chip which must be affixed to your shoe and returned after you finish. Failure to wear or return your chip will result in disqualification. There is a $10 charge for chips not returned.

Start
5 kilometer starts at 9:30 a.m. at the corner of Third and Walnut streets, one block south of the finish area and adjacent to Nollen Plaza.

Route
5 kilometer race is a USA Track & Field certified distance. The 3.1 mile course is flat and fast winding through the east side of the downtown area. Shortly after the first mile, the course turns right onto East River Drive merging with the 20 kilometer (they are going south). The 5 kilometer course turns around just before the bike path near University Avenue and heads back south, then goes west on Locust Street to the finish. The course is traffic-controlled and will be timed for a one-hour finish.

No early starts, bikes, baby joggers, dogs, roller blades are permitted. Headphones or electronic listening devices are permitted but discouraged for the safety of yourself and other runners.

Finish
5 kilometer finishes at Third and Locust streets, adjacent to Nollen Plaza in downtown Des Moines. Refreshments are available on the east end of Nollen Plaza. Finishers must show their race number and be prepared to show a photo ID to receive alcohol.

 

Awards Ceremony & Results
5 Kilometer awards will be presented at 10:30 a.m. on Nollen Plaza. The first three overall men and women will be announced to the crowd, please be present to receive your award and for pictures to be placed in the results booklet.

Age division winners can receive their awards west of the announcer area in the age division award’s tent.

In the event of bad weather, the awards will be held inside Capital Square, west of Nollen Plaza. Results will be posted near the finish line on the east side of the Capital Square building, full results will be available by 7 p.m., Saturday, at www.damtodam.com, and the official results booklet will be mailed to all entrants.

Age Group Awards
5 Kilometer special awards are presented to the top three male and female winners, who are eligible for age group awards. 5 Kilometer age group awards are presented to the top three male and female winners in 13 age divisions.
