20K Race - 2009

Fee
$35 entry fee if postmarked by or on May 18. After May 18, no registration is accepted via postal mail. $35 entry fee online by or on May 21. After May 21, the online entry fee is $45 through noon on May 27. Register online.

$60 entry fee at packet pickup May 29. No registration will be accepted on race day. No refunds or transferring of race number.

Packet Pickup
20 Kilometer packets will be available May 29 at the Polk County Convention Complex, 501 Grand Avenue from 2 to 8 p.m. Race entrants can look up their race number at this website on May 28.

Seeding All 20 kilometer Runners
All 20 kilometer runners must predict their expected finish time on their entry form or GetMeRegistered.com. Runners will be seeded with different colored race bibs.

At the start you will be required to line up according to your colored bib. If you do not predict an expected finish time you will be seeded with the slowest runners.

Chip Timing
All runners will be provided a chip which must be affixed to your shoe and returned after you finish. You will be timed according to your chip time, plus you will receive a 10 km split time.

Failure to wear or return your chip will result in disqualification. There is a $10 charge for chips not returned.

Start – No Early Starts
20 Kilometer starts at 7 a.m. at the west end of Saylorville Dam, north of Des Moines. The Dam and roads leading to the Dam are closed to traffic at 5:30 a.m. To avoid congestion and parking difficulties, runners should take the bus to the Dam.

All entrants must start with the gun at 7 a.m., failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Buses – The Best Way to Get to the Dam
20 Kilometer buses leave from the Polk County Convention Complex, 501Grand Avenue, to Saylorville Dam from 5:15 to 6 a.m. Transportation is only available prior to the race. There are no return buses to the dam site after the race. Bus transportation is included in the entry fee.

Due to current conditions, no vehicles will be allowed on the West side of the Saylorville Dam on Race day for the 20K. Runners cannot be dropped off on the West side of the Dam from a car or other vehicle on Race morning.

No cars can be left at Saylorville Dam area due to potential restrictions.

Clothing
20 Kilometer clothing bags are provided and can be dropped off at the west end of Saylorville Dam near the start area. Clothing will be transported to the finish and claimed on the south side of the Capital Square building, on Walnut Street between Fourth and Fifth streets.

You must use the official Dam to Dam clothing bag and luggage ID tag provided. Dam to Dam is not responsible for lost baggage.

Route
20 kilometer race is a point-to-point USA Track & Field certified distance. The start is on Saylorville Dam where runners can see downtown Des Moines on the horizon. The 12.4 mile journey takes runners through Iowa's countryside and Des Moines neighborhoods to the finish at Nollen Plaza. All miles are marked and splits given. Water stations are provided at least every 2 miles with medical support at the last 3 water stations. The course is traffic-controlled and is timed for a 3.5 hour finish.

No early starts, bikes, baby joggers, dogs, roller blades are permitted. Headphones or electronic listening devices are permitted but discouraged for the safety of yourself and other runners.

Finish
20 kilometer finishes at Third and Locust streets, adjacent to Nollen Plaza in downtown Des Moines. A special Dam to Dam medal will be presented to each finisher. Clothing is available for pickup on the south side of the Capital Square building. Osteopathic manipulation therapy will be available near the finish at Walnut and Fifth streets. Showers are available at the YMCA, two blocks east of the finish; present your race number for a towel.

Refreshments are available on the east end of Nollen Plaza. Finishers must show their race number and be prepared to show a photo ID to receive alcohol.

Drop-off
Due to current conditions, no vehicles will be allowed on the West side of the Saylorville Dam on Race day for the 20K. Runners cannot be dropped off on the West side of the Dam from a car or other vehicle on Race morning.

Awards Ceremony & Results
20 Kilometer awards will be presented at 9:15 a.m. on Nollen Plaza. Money winners and first place age division winners will be announced to the crowd, please be present to receive your award and for pictures to be placed in the results booklet.

Other age division winners can receive their awards west of the announcer area in the age division award’s tent. Age division winners will be based on chip times.

In the event of bad weather, the awards will be held inside Capital Square, west of Nollen Plaza. Results will be posted near the finish line on the east side of the Capital Square building, full results will be available by 7 p.m., Saturday, at www.damtodam.com, and the official results booklet will be mailed to all entrants.

Cash Prizes - over $10,000 based on gun times
20 Kilometer cash prize winners are eligible for age group awards. The overall cash prizes are seven deep for both male and female finishers: 1st - $1,500, 2nd - $1,000, 3rd - $700, 4th - $500 5th - $300, 6th - $200 and 7th - $100. First 3 men breaking 1:03 and first 3 women breaking 1:14 receive a $200 bonus. Master's cash prize for both top male and female: 1st - $250 and 2nd - $100.

Age Group Awards
20 kilometer age group awards are as follows for both Male and Female: 16 & under (top 1), 17 to 19 (top 3), 20 to 24 (top 6), 25 to 29 (top 6), 30 to 34 (top 6), 35 to 39 (top 6), 40 to 44 (top 6), 45 to 49 (top 4), 50 to 54 (top 4), 55 to 59 (top 2), 60 to 64 (top 1), 65 to 69 (top 1) and 70 & over (top 1). 20 kilometer wheelchair awards are top 1 for both Male and Female.

Team Awards
Teams can enter in Men, Women and Co-ed divisions. To ensure each member is entered correctly, the team name of each runner must be exactly the same. Teams consist of at least four runners. Co-ed division must have at least two female runners. Teams with one female runner will be entered in the men's division. The top members score on a total time basis using chip time.

There will be one winner in each of the three divisions. Members who score on the team will receive free entry into the 2010 Dam to Dam race and the team will receive $100.
